Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal data CyberSpaceChronicles collects, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and the rights you have over it.
Last updated: July 13, 2026
1. Who we are
CyberSpaceChronicles is a brand of Ham Events & Media Ltd ("we", "us", "our"), the legal entity that operates the website at cscafrica.com and its related services (together, the "Services"). Ham Events & Media Ltd is the data controller responsible for your personal data. You can reach us at hello@cscafrica.com.
2. Data we collect
- Account data. When you sign in with Google, Microsoft or Facebook, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from that provider. We do not receive or store your social-login password.
- Profile & preferences. A display name/nickname, topic interests and settings you choose, so we can personalise your "For You" feed.
- Content you submit. Comments, likes, bookmarks, live-update posts (including any photos, video or location you attach), and contributor/freelancer applications.
- Newsletter & WhatsApp. Your email address if you subscribe to our newsletter, and — if you send us a live update or opt into updates — your WhatsApp phone number, profile name and the content of the messages you send us.
- Usage & device data. Pages viewed, articles read, approximate location derived from your IP address, browser and device type, and similar analytics.
- Cookies & similar technologies. Small files used to keep you signed in, remember preferences and measure usage (see section 7).
3. How we use your data
- To provide, secure and operate the Services, including signing you in and keeping you signed in.
- To personalise content and recommendations (your "For You" feed).
- To publish content you choose to submit (comments, live updates) under your display name.
- To send you the newsletter or updates you requested, and to respond to your enquiries.
- To protect against spam, fraud and abuse (including via Google reCAPTCHA).
- To understand how the Services are used and to improve them.
- To comply with legal obligations.
4. Legal bases
Where the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA), the GDPR or similar laws apply, we rely on: your consent (e.g. newsletter sign-up, optional cookies); the performance of a contract (providing an account you asked for); our legitimate interests (securing and improving the Services); and legal obligation where we must retain or disclose data by law. You may withdraw consent at any time.
5. Sharing your data
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with:
- Service providers who process data on our behalf — for example authentication providers (Google, Microsoft, Facebook), media hosting (Cloudinary), email delivery (our SMTP/email provider), messaging (Meta's WhatsApp Business Platform) and analytics.
- Authorities where required by law, regulation or valid legal process.
- A successor in the event of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, subject to this policy.
Content you post publicly (comments, published live updates, your display name and picture) is visible to other users and the public.
6. WhatsApp updates & broadcasts
If you send a live update to our WhatsApp number, we process your phone number, WhatsApp profile name and message content to publish that update. If you opt in to receive broadcasts, we use your number to send you the messages you requested; you can opt out at any time by messaging us or contacting hello@cscafrica.com. WhatsApp messaging is also subject to Meta's own privacy terms.
7. Cookies
We use essential cookies (to sign you in and keep the site secure), preference cookies (to remember your settings) and, where permitted, analytics cookies (to measure usage). We also use Google reCAPTCHA to prevent abuse, which may set cookies and is subject to Google's privacy policy. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling essential cookies may break parts of the Services.
8. Data retention
We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law. Account data is kept while your account is active; published content may remain unless you ask us to remove it; analytics data is retained in aggregated or limited form.
9. Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you may request to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent. To exercise any of these, email hello@cscafrica.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission or your local data-protection authority.
10. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures (including encrypted connections and access controls) to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Children
The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
12. International transfers
Some of our service providers may process data outside your country. Where we transfer data internationally, we take steps to ensure it remains protected in line with applicable law.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will change the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you. Continued use of the Services after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
14. Contact
